The Cousin

"What are you doing here?" Oscar asked, watching the young man come down the steps. "Where have you been for two years? I don't understand! How did you even get here!" Ozwald smirked at him, as if something was funny.

"You're definitely not the little timid boy from back home, that's for certain," he stated. Oscar rolled his eyes, especially as Ozpin contradicted Ozwald's statement. According to the voice, the boy was still plenty timid. Figures.

"And you haven't answered my questions. Would you mind doing that now?" The cane was still tightly gripped in his small hand, which was how Ozpin was giving his unwanted opinions. It was comforting, yet very annoying. Both all at once.

"Like you, it seems, I've been traveling. I didn't mean to come unannounced, but it wasn't my choice. Considering the state of Atlas right now, it's a good thing I left when I did." Oscar looked off to the side, his stomach twisting.

"We were needed here," Ozpin reminded him, trying to relax the boy's anxiety. "It isn't your fault that Salem went back to Beacon." Oscar took a deep breath, hoping that his cousin didn't question him and his new odd behaviors.

"Oscar! Are you coming?" Nora shouted. Had they caught up to him already? Yes, they had. Jaune wasn't with them, he'd probably went to find the nearest hospital for his partner. Oscar was still surprised by that.

"Sorry, I have to catch up with someone!" he replied. "I'll meet you at the airship station tomorrow morning! I promise!" Nora nodded disappointedly.

"So, who was that girl you were walking with?" Ozwald asked, taking a smug bite of the stew he'd made. The man, who had introduced himself as "Ursa", offered Oscar a second bowl. Of course, the boy politely declined.

"Just a pretty silver-eyed girl," Oscar casually answered, trying to wave off the question. After seeing the look Ozwald was giving him, and Ozpin's chuckling, he decided to elaborate. "Her name's Ruby, she's a friend. She's also my teammate."

"You can't have a team yet, you're still a kid." Oscar rolled his eyes again. "Besides, that girl has a team. She's part of Beacon's team RWBY. I saw the broadcast. And she doesn't need her own team anyway, she's a Huntress."

"She wasn't an official one when I met her." Oscar was gazing at his empty bowl of stew. "And she was part of team RNJR then, not team RWBY. She didn't reunite with them till after Haven. Not long after we found out Lionheart was working for Salem."

"Well, glad I wasn't there," Ozwald said. "Instead, I was in Argus. Oddly enough, it had a lot less issues." Oscar scoffed, he knew that wasn't true. "Took me a while to get to Atlas, of course. I was with Gwen when the battle happened, went to Vacuo after."

"Hated that whale," Oscar admitted. "Saw very little of it, but I absolutely hated it in there. I was lucky I had..." Trailing off, he gained a saddened face. "It was scary, that's all." Hmm...

"So, are you going to that dumb press conference in two days?" Ozwald seemed to be mocking him a little. So Oscar fought back.

"Of course, Ruby and I are the ones speaking at it." The clearing went silent, he'd won.
